Seriously though - people seem to assume horses will be fine in summer and only worry about winter, but horses overheat easily.

I was walking my dog early this morning to avoid the heat and I noticed a field of lovely horses of all different varieties, shapes and sizes, all clustered under one small tree. It was already getting warmer and on closer inspection (in fact I scoured the whole field) they were doing their best to stay cool because the water supply they had was totally inadequate.

You want your dog to swim?

We’re going to try to give some advice on how to teach a dog how to swim and some general safety issues. As always check with your vet on any medical questions.

Teaching a dog to swim:

I would suggest starting your dog out in a pool or shallow lake where you can enter the water with your dog. Many dogs will be more confident if you are standing with them if they are nervous about venturing out on their own. So by walking out, you can build their confidence before letting them go on their own. Bring a favorite toy with you and encourage them out further by tossing the toy short distances and swimming over to it.

Professional dog trainers use precise methods of repetition and reinforcement to teach dogs what to do and what not to do. Unless you are a professional dog training, trying to train your dog can actually do more harm than good. However, there are devices that can help. Dogs require precision and repetition to learn, but humans are not very precise nor patient creatures. Electronic dog collars and containment systems can offer the redundancy and speed that you cannot.

A flea is a warm bloodsucker; it may infest your dog and may possibly suck on your blood as well. It is therefore necessary to make sure flea will not be allowed to roam around your household.

Prevent the spread of fleas The best way to get rid of flea on your dog is to ensure that these small bloodsuckers will not thrive on your pet and around your household.
